Gift It: DIY Ideas for an Engagement Party

A couple weeks ago my life erupted in sparkles when my adorable Maid of Honor announced she and her cute as can be fiance just got engaged. Skip forward to multiple cups of coffee, some anxious may-not-make-it early AM standby flights, and a secret airport rendezvous with a very special co-conspirator to one very shocked, tearful hug and operation Surprise-Jenny was a success!

Another success for the weekend? An super cute, totally practical and thoughtful (toot my own horn? don’t mind if I do.) DIY gift for their engagement soiree! I wanted to get something that would be good for both the groom and bride-to-be. Something that would get them excited for their engagement. So in a moment of inspiration I decided to make them a Wedding Fund!

What you need:

1.) A jar: You can find great apothecary style jars at Michael’s or any kitchen or container store. Mine was a large cylinder with chalk name tag from Cost Plus World Market.

2.) A label: If yours doesn’t have chalk you can add on a ribbon and name tag or even paint or make a chalk area like mine.

3.) Cash, cash, money! However much you want to contribute, just go to a bank and ask for 1’s or coins. You could also mix in little notes of love and well wishes for the couple.

4.) Some ribbon or charms to tie around and decorate.

They had a cute inside joke called “Project Wedding Cake” when referring to their plans to get married, but you could label yours any way that makes sense for your newly-engaged-couple.

So pen a creative name and voila!

What creative ideas do you have for showering your favorite couples with love?

Life’s short. Eat cake.

Sunday’s procrastination via beautiful details brought to you by E! For Etsy. and C! for Cherry Time who happens to have the coolest take on crochet.

This is not your Grandma’s needle…

And let’s just take a minute to talk about these fish.

Seriously.

ADORBS.

So what do you think ladies and gents? Super cute right? Makes you think about taking up crochet right?

Helpful hint from experience. Those “instructional books” don’t instruct you into these cute little creations. Believe me. I tried and all I got was a floppy, lopsided start of a stocking hat. *sigh* Thankfully there are much more talented individuals in this world like Cherry Time!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday’s as much as I’m enjoying my ritual of Sunday procrastination! What’s your favorite way to spend the last day of weekend bliss?

xoxo loves!

Wedding Shoe Spotlight. Two by Two.

Weddings are a celebration of two’s. Two families becoming one. Two hearts on soul. Two lives. Too many choices…

But one of those choices that should be fun is deciding on the perfect shoes! And what could be better for the big day than a pair of fabulous boots? Not only will your toes by thanking you, but boots can be worn over and over again reminding you each time of that very special day.

Boots can add let your quirky side show…

While still being sexy and stylish.

They can be simple.

Or sweet.

{Flower girls}

But even more than that. They can be worn side by side…

{Bride; Groom}

So whether “Rustic Chic” is a thing of the past. Here’s to hoping these boots will be a trend that lasts.

And if you’re looking to cowboy up for your big day, you have to check out Cavender’s Boot City. They have amazing styles and the most adorable kicks for the minis of your special day. Here’s a personal pic of our own loot from the Austin, TX location (of course).

Add some shake to your cake…toppers! Cake Toppers with style.

Most of you know that when planning a wedding, you spend a lot of time becoming a fast friend of details. Blush vs. Pink. Roses vs. Peonies. Up vs. Down.

Even Jef wants to get caught up in the details…

But when fretting over the fine print, don’t forget to have fun with the details you can. The ones that you and your guests will likely remember rather than whether your programs matched your invites (truth, sorry ladies).

Such as spicing up your topper with mini salt & pepper shakers! Bonus: you can also keep these after the wedding as a fun reminder or perhaps a new “collectible” because that’s just what every newly wed couple needs.

ModCloth of course brings us some of the cutest, from elephant kisses to “truffles” that look like Toad from Mario. And a perk of cruising ModCloth for your cake toppers? Perusing their collections for new dresses, because let’s not forget there’s a bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner and honeymoon to shop plan for ladies!

 And then of course there’s the Firework Gallery, which never fails to provide the cute, the quirky, the thing you totally don’t need but is super adorable or funny so you must have. Like these.

But wait.

Then there’s that time I you Google’d “salt & pepper shakers” and wound up finding the MECCA OF ALL THINGS CUTE AND SHAKEY on none other than Amazon ~ compliments of Westland Giftware.

They seriously have all shakers you could ever want in the history of salt and peppa’.

From the standards like…

To the perfect toppers for animal obsessed lovers (me! me! me!).

{PENGUINS!}

And even miniature homages to our favorite famous couples (I swoon for Rhett & Scarlett…).

 So lovely ladies, what ways have you decided to celebrate the details?
